how do you make gardein™?think of how bread or pasta is made: gardein™ is made using a similar approach. we mix water, flour, veggies, grains, flavors and spices together to create the ‘dough’, form it and bake it in special ovens to give gardein™ its fibrous look and its meaty mouth-feel.
why can't I find gardein™ at my local supermarket?we‘re constantly expanding our distribution. please check the ‘where to buy’ section. you can find it in the produce department or the deli section. if you can’t find gardein™ foods in your area, please talk to your local grocer about carrying it!
where do the ingredients come from that are used in gardein™?the majority of gardein™ ingredients come from North American farms. we use all non-GMO ingredients and some organic ingredients. we like to diversify our proteins by using wheat, soy and pea proteins. we’re also the first company of our kind to add ancient grains—quinoa, amaranth, millet and kamut®. some of our spices come from India and our grains from South America.
are your foods organic?gardein™ does contain organic ingredients. our goal with gardein™ is to make it affordable so that everyone can enjoy it. we're looking at the possibilities of an organic product in the future.
is soy protein as good for you as animal-based protein?the soybean contains all eight essential amino acids and exceeds even meat in the amount of usable protein it can deliver to the human body. other good sources are potatoes, whole wheat bread, rice, broccoli, spinach, almonds, peas, chickpeas, peanut butter, tofu (soybean curd), soymilk, lentils and kale.
why don't you make gluten-free foods?wheat is a tremendous protein. Along with soy and pea proteins, wheat helps give gardein™ its great texture. a gluten-free food is part of our long-term plans.
is the soy in gardein™ non-GMO?yes. we only use 'identity-preserved' soy protein (which basically means, it helps to ensure us that our soy protein is not genetically modified).
