An extraordinary $1 million was raised at a star-studded event held in the magnificent Unici Casa in Culver City on August 29th for the Mercy For Animals charity.
Hosted by John Salley (NBA Champion) and Jane Velez-Mitchell (journalist and author), and attended by 350 people – including celebrities, influencers and supporters of animal rights – the immensely successful Mercy For Animals’ Hidden Heroes Gala was held to celebrate the work of their brave undercover investigators and their incredible supporters.
At this very special Black Tie event, guests dined on a menu which included Chick’n Mango Summer Rolls – a fruity offering of our gardein Chick’n with mango, thai basil, cilantro, mint, rice noodles, and a Thai chili drizzle for extra bite; Stacked Watermelon Salad – a gluten free salad with crushed pistachio, crumbled Kitehill Cheese, red onion, mint and a subtle balsamic drizzle; Gluten Free Mini Tacos – made with gardein ground beef, chipotle aioli, black beans, roasted corn and poblano pepper, with cilantro micro greens; Crossroads Kitchen Blini and Carrot Lox – with buckwheat blini, almond crème fresh, carrot lox, and kelp caviar; and Gardein Battered Fishless Filet with fries finished off with vegan tartar sauce.
Among the celebrities appearing at the Gala were: Pamela Anderson, James Cromwell, Emily Deschanel, Tony Kanal, Moby, Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Simmons, Leslie David Baker, and Jennifer Tilly (who was heard saying: “I need vegan tacos!”) Guests were amazed with the Crabless Cakes and said the appetizers were “out of this world”. (Tony Kanal asked to visit the kitchen and meet Chef Mary when he heard she was cooking with Gardein).
