No, this wasn’t a 1971 Ford Mustang called Eleanor – that was gone in 60 seconds! This was the newest addition to our fishless range of meals: Mini Crabless Cakes. And every batch was eaten within 30 seconds of appearing at this year’s Vancouver Veg Fest! We made a lot of people happy – over 3000 people, to be (almost) precise! That’s how many food samples we served up to a constant stream of Gardein fans and first time triers. But this was no hungry crowd. Word had already got out – and instead of wandering off looking for freebies elsewhere, our crowd simply stood and waited for our next batch of samples to arrive. A very discerning bunch!
The Vancouver Veg Fest is right in our back yard and we love to play host. This was it’s 5th year and it was held on Granville Street, in downtown Vancouver, on a beautiful hot 32ºc July day last Sunday, the 19th. Close to 15,000 people attended, and were hosted by speakers Krista Osborne (Managing Director for Mercy For Animals), Vesanto Melina (Dietician and author), and Ken Spector of HappyCow dot net. It’s a wonderful celebration of vegetarian lifestyle – food, animals and the environment. We like to think we made an impression – but certainly the fantastic people we met made an impression on us!
So, thanks to everyone who came along. We had a great time meeting old friends and making new ones. For those of you who missed out this year – you might have missed a great day out but you can still enjoy our most popular meals of the day. Our Mini Crabless Cakes was the hands (claws) down favorite of the day. They were closely followed by our Mandarin Orange Chick’n. Although, to be honest, no one should ever consider backing crab against chicken in any race. So we suggest you try them both! And if you haven’t found us in a local store, yet, why not click over to our store locator here and find one today.
