Toronto’s own Vegetarian Food Festival has now been and gone and what a fabulous time was had by everyone!

It happened over the weekend, from Friday September 11th to Sunday 13th and had an estimated 50,000 attendance – despite autumnal rain and wind. It was a fantastic weekend full of workshops, lectures, fitness classes, music, panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, free samples, and a whole lot more, all with a common vegan lifestyle theme.

It was very much a family day, but with lots of young couples and university students too – alongside celebrities such as Zoe Eisenberg and Ayinde Howell (Authors of The Lusty Vegan) promoting their book; Miyoko Schinner (Author of Artisan Vegan Cheese and founder of Miyoko’s Kitchen) doing a cooking demonstration; and a performance by the singer Meagan Morrison. In the high-spirited atmosphere of the day, many attendees came dressed in animal and plant costumes and took selfies with Gardein display bags.

Gardein was there, of course – we love taking part in Canadian food festivals! Everyone raved about our beefless ground served in a spicy red chili enchilada sauce, including many who had never tasted it before. The most asked question of the day, as we handed out food samples, was: “are seconds encouraged?…” the answer was “yes of course”!
