WOAH! Did you catch the latest NBA playoff game? Almost every single match up has been quite the nail-biting event! Watching these athletes play night after night makes you wonder: what gives these superstars the energy to perform so well in such an intense 48 minute game?

The answer may surprise you: Clippers power forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been vegan since 2013 and Miami Heat’s small forward James Jones also follows a vegan diet. They are joined by Knicks power forward (and 2003 Rookie of the Year!) Amar’e Stoudemire, who has also explored a vegan diet since 2013. NBA.com even provides some helpful tips for those looking to try meatless foods. Who knew?!

Check out what 4-time championship winner, John Salley had to say about changing up his diet- “I remember when I became a vegetarian and my game changed. I couldn’t imagine if I was a vegan back when I was playing. The thing about the NBA, any pro sport, is, guys don’t know how to take care of their body. It’s funny. They got trainers around to help them lift weights, throw all this weight up, parachutes. All this other crazy stuff. But they don’t have guys who say, “Hey. This is how you take care of your body.”

So now it’s time to ask yourself this- “What is stopping me from changing things up and living a better lifestyle?!”. What about even starting small- like giving up meat for just ONE day a week? Did you know the actual act of “Meatless Mondays” has now become an international movement in over 29 countries and counting? The Meatless Monday movement focuses on just cutting back on at least ONE day a week for your health and the health of the planet. Knowing that you are actively taking care of yourself and helping the planet at the same time are great reasons to consider these options!
